About Shelly :: Appraiser
A member of the Appraisers Association of America for more than twenty-five years, Shelly Zegart has appraised quilts for insurance, charitable donation, business, and estate evaluation purposes. Zegart bases her appraisal values on current market prices, which she audits on a weekly basis. She has appraised work for a number of not-for-profit institutions across the country.
Successfully completed a 7-hour course on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the Congressionally-reorganized set of appraisal standards promulgated by The Appraisal Foundation: completed on October 11, 2013, effective through December 31, 2017.
In 1997, she wrote a two-part article, "Understanding Appraisals" for
the IQA Journal, International Quilt Association, Houston, Texas, Fall
1997. She has lectured on the topic of appraising quilts at New York University
and for the national meeting of the Appraisers Association of America
as part of a panel on "Art in Volatile Markets". She was a panelist at
the seminar "Appraising Your Quilts: From Antique Quilts to Art Quilts",
at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 1998.
Zegart's background includes more than fifteen years as a board member of the Louisville Visual Art Association, a not for profit contemporary art center where she served as Chairperson of the organization and headed many of the standing committees. She collects and studies both contemporary art and antique quilts.
