Read extract from this book...
The exhibition discussed in this catalogue is one of six produced by the Kentucky Quilt Project as a part of its 1991-1992 project, "Louisville Celebrates the American Quilt." The goal of the exhibition was to focus on African-American quiltmaking and present an long-overdue, wider view on this subject. Cuesta Benberry, who authored the catalog and served as the curator for this exhibition, "summarizes the present knowledge of African-American quilt history." Mrs. Benberry had produced an extensive body of work in the area of African-American quilt scholarship and was a renowned authority in this area.
